British broadband and communications solutions and services provider BT has upgraded its EMEA satellite network infrastructure to iDirect’s (News - Alert) Evolution platform.

The upgrade will enable BT to operate its satellite network more efficiently for finance, oil and gas, and government customers. BT (News - Alert) has planned to complete the migration of its customers to iDirect Evolution X3 remotes during the remainder of 2010.

iDirect has claimed that the Evolution X3 is a next-generation satellite router featuring iDirect’s highly efficient implementation of the DVB-S2/ACM standard. The X3 is ideally suited for broadband connectivity such as Internet and VPN access to enterprise networks, as well as real-time VoIP and video conferencing applications.

Evolution platform will allow BT to extend the reach of its terrestrial Multi Protocol Label Switching (MPLS) network’s coverage areas and offer integrated and reliable connectivity for a wide range of enterprise customers. The network built on the Evolution platform can also support remote IP apps that connect branches of multinational corporations, debut core communications infrastructure for rural areas and extend government and education initiatives to remote populace.

Officials with BT Media and Broadcast (News - Alert) have opinioned that the iDirect platform has proven itself as a most efficient solution for allocating bandwidth across remote locations, economically serving sites with a dynamic range of network traffic. Their investment in iDirect gives them the ability to seamlessly integrate satellite and terrestrial networks in order to support the connectivity needs of a broad range of enterprise customers throughout EMEA.

Steve Tunnicliffe, iDirect’s Europe regional VP added that major telecom carriers like BT use iDirect's platform to meet growing enterprise needs by building next-generation IP communications networks. These networks must deliver seamless and guaranteed global connectivity, supporting voice, data and video applications in any business, geographical or communications environment. BT was one of iDirect's very first European customers and they continue to rely on their platform today.
