eBay to Launch European Platform
Senior Editor
According to reports, eBay (News - Alert) plans to launch a worldwide service that will bridge foreign countries marketplaces together.
The e-commerce giant will allegedly launch an international service that would help Internet shoppers in Russia, Greece and other European countries tap into the company’s U.S., U.K. and German online marketplaces, according to an eBay official, The Wall Street Journal reported.
With more than 90 million active users globally, eBay is the world’s largest online marketplace, “where practically anyone can buy and sell practically anything,” according to eBay officials. In 2009, the total worth of goods sold on eBay was $60 billion.
The international platform will serve shoppers in six European countries, each with a dedicated Web site in the local language, starting within the next four to six weeks, spokesman John Pluhowski told the Journal.
