Just Call, a service that allows cheap calls to be made from anywhere in the U. K., released findings of a survey that was conducted to examine the mobile phone usage trends of young British adults who wanted to buy Christmas presents.

UtalkMarketing, which keeps consumers updated with current trends and activities in industry and Toluna, a community website dedicated to providing online polls and opinions, conducted the survey that involved 1300 consumers in the U.K.

According to the survey results, 32 percent of consumers between the ages of 18-34 indicated that they would be using their mobile phones to purchase gifts during Christmas.

A spokesperson for Just Call commented on these results and said that it was “interesting.” The fact that younger consumers preferred to do their shopping with their mobiles clearly indicated that mobiles were no longer regarded as mere communication tools but were being regarded as a “viable and reliable way of buying products online.”

Further results indicated that people in other age groups also appeared keen on using their mobiles to buy presents during Christmas. About 14 percent of the respondents between the ages of 35-54 and nine percent in the over 55 category expressed a keen interest in shopping with their mobile devices during the festive season.

According to the spokesperson another interesting feature of the survey was that it indicated that iPhone users were more likely than their BlackBerry (News - Alert) or Android counterparts to make purchases using their mobile phones. Just Call indicated that the overall results of the survey was good news for retailers and the telecommunications industry, as it indicated a rising trend in the use of mobile phones for Christmas shopping.

In other news, according to The 2011 Social TV Trends Report that examined the viewing habits of British online consumers, Internet browsing is the most popular activity while watching TV, with 62 percent of British TV viewers reporting to do both at the same time.
