Touchnote, a London-based start-up that facilitates the sending of physical post cards via the Web or mobile, announced its selection as one of the showcase applications for Windows Phone (News - Alert) 7.

Commenting on this achievement in a press release, Raam Thakrar, CEO of Touchnote (News - Alert), said, “Working with Microsoft was a real collaboration – we talked through many of the different features with them to make sure that we delivered an app that really takes advantage of the new platform.” “It was really refreshing that the Windows Phone team spent a lot of time with us – helping us with our build, providing feedback and stamping out bugs. That’s not something that their competitors often do in our experience.”

This application is already available for the iPhone, Symbian and Android (News - Alert) mobile phones. Touchnote enables the user to take a photo and send it as a physical postcard from anywhere in the world with a message chosen according to occasion.

It was revealed that the postcard prices start from $1.49, with various payment options available, like mobile operator billing or Google (News - Alert) Checkout, depending on the user’s handset. Also if the order is received from within the United Kingdom, postcards are normally delivered the next working day if ordered before noon.

Oded Ran, head of Consumer Marketing for Windows Phone UK of Microsoft (News - Alert), said, “Touchnote lets you take a photo with your phone and then post it as a postcard anywhere in the world. I love it because it’s easier, quicker, cheaper and more personal than sending a regular postcard, especially when I’m traveling outside the UK. And their Windows Phone 7 app looks amazing.”

Raam explained that most companies face problems during a big product launch, but Microsoft was well prepared for the launch. He pointed out that the company has tried to incorporate features which will service the needs of the end consumer.

The availability of high-quality, third-party applications is required in securing and retaining customers. Focusing their thinking on the user experience has resulted in a very intuitive and highly visual OS, Thakrar noted.

Touchnote sources added that the application will be available on all handsets running Windows Phone 7 and that cards can be sent to any country in the world. The company  has brought its expertise in providing online postcards to the mobile world with an application that enables the user to take a photo and send it as a physical postcard from anywhere in the world along with a message.
