Ericsson Eyes 21Mbps Mobile Network for Scandinavia

Ericsson and 3 Scandinavia reportedly have entered a contract to enhance mobile broadband speeds in Scandinavia, improving quality and capacity by upgrading to 21 Mbps speeds.
With this, 3’s customers get improved access to mobile broadband services, including Internet and downloading of music and video.
Peder Ramel, CEO of 3 Scandinavia, said his company was the first to launch Turbo 3G in the Nordic region and now is proud to be one of the first operators in the world to offer a speed of 21Mbps.
“Ericsson’s (News - Alert) leading technology will help us boost competitiveness and reach our goal of bringing high-quality communications to our customers,” Ramel said.
Mikael B (News - Alert)äckström, President of Ericsson Nordic and Baltic region, added, “With the upgrade to 21Mbps, 3 is one of the first operators to offer customers new and richer services at this speed. We are proud to contribute to 3’s great ambition to launch high-speed mobile broadband services in Scandinavia.”
Currently, Ericsson will offer the improved speed in selected parts of the network in Sweden and Denmark. However, Ericsson and 3 will continue to expand network coverage throughout 2009, with the launch being scheduled for early next year.
According to the agreement, Ericsson will provide radio base stations, RBS6000, core network features and a mobile backhaul like Redback SmartEdge 1200, Marconi OMS 1400 and MINI-LINK TN.
Ericsson is a provider of technology and services to telecom operators. It is provider of 2G and 3G mobile technologies and supplies communications services and manages networks with 120 million subscribers. The company has mobile and fixed network infrastructure and broadband and multimedia solutions .Its joint venture with Ericsson provides feature-rich personal mobile devices.
