As the demand of IPTV (News - Alert) increases, many companies are improving their offerings to stay ahead of competitors and capture the all-important early advantage in the marketplace.

Telekom Austria is one such company that has selected the Ericsson IPTV solution to enhance its IPTV offering.

Ericsson’s (News - Alert) first end-to-end IPTV solution also includes the Middleware Application Server and Content Distribution Platform. The clients of the company will now get telecom-grade performance and they can meet scalability requirements, as it involves complete life-cycle management.

The MediaBox from Telekom Austria (News - Alert) interconnects the TV set, mobile phone and PC,
allowing any image, video or music file stored on the computer to be easily retrieved and accessed on any screen. So, to blended content services to multiple devices, Ericsson will exchange and enhance Telekom Austria's current IPTV platform. By introducing a new generation user interface, these devices are expected to get rid of obstacles between TV set and PCs.

“This is a breakthrough for Ericsson to provide and systems
integrate the IPTV solution to one of the most advanced, innovative IPTV operators in Europe and co-jointly develop a leading edge service to Austrian customers,” said Roland Nordgren, head of Ericsson Central Europe. “IPTV is set to grow from 40 million to some 120 million subscriptions globally over the next five years.”

Ericsson will provide a complete solution to Telekom Austria which includes its award-winning IPTV middleware, OpenStream Digital Services Platform for video-on-demand and WatchPoint Content Management System. The company will also provide prime integration and consultancy services, which will help Telekom Austria to address the challenge of delivering the same content in different formats
 to multiple devices.

Recently, the company won an LTE (News - Alert) contract with AT&T that will help the European device manufacturer bring 4G services like video to its next generation of smartphones. LTE is the “latest step” in a wireless evolution with AT&T (News - Alert) that began more than 20 years ago. Moreover, it’s part of AT&T's ongoing efforts to innovate and invest in mobile broadband.
