European telecom giant Orange has announced that it has opened an International M2M Center (IMC) in Brussels –  where its Belgian subsidiary Mobistar is operating from – to offer M2M connectivity solutions to international companies.

With over a million active M2M SIM cards in Europe, mobile networks in 29 countries, and fixed network in 220 territories, Orange is a known player in the M2M technologies.
In Brussels, its IMC's first customer has turned out to be Swiss IT services provider I-Axes.

In Machine-To-Machine applications, information is automatically sent from a terminal via the mobile network to a server, both nationally and internationally. The Machine-To-Machine applications can be subdivided into three main sub-areas: telematics, telemetry and mobile payment. Currently, M2M applications cover fields as diverse as fleet management, telemetry and remote maintenance, and are aimed at all business segments and companies, no matter what their size.

Moreover, IMC brings together expertise in consulting, innovation, integration and project management to develop SIM Cards. Orange’s IMC targets original equipment manufacturers (OEM) and national and multinational companies.

“M2M solutions are at the center of our strategy. Now that the market is really starting to take off, we are ready to offer best M2M solutions. The opening of the International M2M Center in Brussels serves as proof,” said Barbara Dalibard, CEO of Orange Business Services (News - Alert), in a statement.

Orange Business Services, one of the pioneers of M2M worldwide, says it is working on defining a new generation of M2M SIM cards to popularize M2M technology.
With 123 million customers, Orange is the number three mobile operator and the number one provider of broadband Internet services in Europe. A subsidiary of France Telecom (News - Alert), Orange covers Internet, television and mobile services in the majority of countries where its parent company has its presence.
