Polish fixed-line telecommunications services provider Netia (News - Alert) SA has merged its storage infrastructure onto 3PAR utility storage in order to enhance its services to customers.

3PAR is a provider of utility storage, a category of highly virtualized tightly clustered and dynamically tiered storage arrays built for utility computing.

The 3PAR Utility Storage features a powerful virtualized storage array, delivering resilient infrastructure agility at the lowest cost to meet rapidly changing business needs.

It can bring down the user’s total cost of data by up to 50 percent, increasing administrative efficiency by up to 10 times and cutting capacity and related expenses by up to 75 percent, according to the company.

With the help of 3PAR utility storage Netia hopes to remove its performance bottlenecks, fasten provisioning of new services and make its datacenters to support over a million voice service customers and nearly half a million broadband subscribers with 40 percent less capacity than required with traditional storage arrays.

Netia officials have stated that the company has only used traditional storage methods until now and had reservations about switching over to 3PAR storage. They now understand that 3PAR technology was extremely innovative, and that there was no other technology like it on the market. 3PAR has offered them with five-nines availability and fast, effective support and for almost half the cost of traditional storage.

Netia recently acquired Tele2 Polska Sp. z o. o. and the company claims that the acquisition coupled with an already-growing customer base for both broadband and voice subscribers led to the increase in demand for services putting more strain in Netia’s infrastructure and added a long queue of applications waiting for disk space.

Netia opted for the 50-Terabyte 3PAR InServ Storage Server to replace their conventional storage and was able to get a fast, easy, and extremely affordable way to address its rising demands at the same time reducing IT and energy costs. The company says that performance issues related to I/O subsystems have disappeared and performance on Netia's warehouse system has quadrupled than that of their previous storage system.

"3PAR has become the storage standard for the Polish telecom industry, counting more than 90 percent of Polish telecoms among our customers," said David Scott, president and CEO for 3PAR.

Scott added that 3PAR offers innovative features and lower cost of data, things traditional storage cannot offer. By turning to 3PAR Netia not only saved costs but also increased availability, increased performance, reduced administration time, and lowered energy consumption.
