Aepona, a developer of software platforms that bring cloud computing and network services together, revealed that its API Monetization Platform has been chosen by Belgium’s telecom operator, Belgacom (News - Alert), for its BeOpen API initiative.
Aepona’s AMP is a telco-grade software solution that allows service providers to expose, manage and monetize their network, contextual, commercial and informational assets as easy-to-use APIs. Aepona’s Network as a Service is powered by its AMP.
“During the vendor evaluation process, Aepona clearly demonstrated their leadership in the market for OpenAPI platforms. We are confident that, as well as our platform provider, Aepona will prove to be a highly valuable business partner over the coming years,” Jan Paesen, director Mobility at Belgacom, said in a statement.
The BeOpen initiative is a project of Belgacom that allows its partners to add network capabilities and intelligence to their applications, creating differentiation for consumer services and enabling productivity gains for business applications. The main goal of the BeOpen initiative is to create a vibrant ecosystem of application developers that will benefit Belgacom’s customers and partners through the creation of innovative new services.
Through BeOpen initiative Belgacom’s core network assets will be made available to its partners as web services-based APIs.

Ruh also emphasized that Aepona is proud to have been chosen by Belgacom for its BeOpen project for which the company is fully committed to partner to ensure its long-term success.
In related news, Aepona also announced at the Mobile World Congress (News - Alert) 2012, held in Barcelona, Spain, that the Small Cell Forum, the independent industry and operator association that supports small cell deployment worldwide, has selected the company to provide the Reference Implementation platform for its recently-announced Developer API Initiative.
