While the growing adaption and usage of smartphones has been making the lives of users much easier and more convenient, at the same time it has been generating potential security related issues on a daily basis. In order to resolve these issues and assure smartphone users a secure and safe mobile experience, various enterprises have been offering advanced solutions and tools.

F-Secure, a provider of security solutions for computing and mobile platforms, has announced to release the new version of its F-Secure (News - Alert) Mobile Security product, which offers enhanced protection levels to smartphone users. Founded in the year 1988, the Finland based company also offers solutions for secure backing up and sharing of vital data of its residential and business customers.

The new F-Secure Mobile Security 7.5 leverages the potential of cloud-based security to include additional features such as enhanced parental control and support for BlackBerry (News - Alert) devices as well.

Kids and teenagers comprise most of the visitors to the Internet through mobile, as suggested by latest reports which indicate around 75 percent of 12 to 17 year old kids have a mobile device with them. Additionally, a recent study by Nielsen stated that around 56 percent of all activity on Android (News - Alert) smartphones consisted of running different applications, although not all of these applications suit the needs of the users of all age groups; a number of these applications are also originated by suspicious resources intending to spread malware and spam.

By the end of this year, F-Secure is going to include advanced cloud-based reputation services into its anti-virus technologies and tools, which will immediately inform the user whether it is safe to install any given mobile application or not. It will help the users to ensure they don’t end up installing any malware or spying application upon their smartphone. The new mechanism embedded within the F-Secure Mobile Security application enables the users to safeguard themselves against potential spying programs and other mobile threats as well.

Using the F-Secure Mobile Security, parents will be able to choose the types of applications they won’t like to be installed at their kids’ smartphones through a new application control capability named “Safe Applications” that follows a simple “tick-in-a-box” system.

“Application control is a very useful tool in today’s quickly evolving mobile-driven world,” commented Antero Norkio, director, Mobile Security and OEM Solutions at F-Secure. “Complementing F-Secure’s Browsing Protection and Parental Control features that block access to inappropriate websites, it helps to provide children with a safe online environment where they can learn and experiment with smartphones and tablets,” Norkio added.

In October 2011, F-Secure partnered with LIME to offer its Internet security, online backup and content sharing services for PCs and Macs to the broadband users of LIME. With the new partnership, LIME aimed at allowing its customers to easily implement security features on their PCs by offering F-Secure's Internet security services.
