Dimoco, a telecommunications company in Austria, announced that it has deployed UI framework ZK as a base over GWT for developing their administration GUIs.

Potix develops and supports ZK, a Java based Ajax solution on SourceForge.net, an open source host. ZK has more than 1,500,000 downloads since its first release in 2005.

The deployment is expected to assist Dimoco to stand out from their competitors with behind-the-scenes Ajax technologies, pure Java development, server-centric architecture and interfaces able to generate statistics for business customers for monitoring SMS traffic, mobile data payment and campaign data.

The Austrian operator was looking for a Web framework with simplicity and customization. By using the UI framework ZK, the company could reduce JavaScript and HTML coding to minimum. It also benefited from the potential of customizing everything down to the last detail while maintaining high security level, company officials said in a statement.

During the evaluation process, the team considered frameworks such as Richfaces, ICEfaces and JSF. The operator selected ZK over GWT because the main advantage of ZK is its possibility to describe a GUI in XML while all XML elements are available in Java code.

“The simplicity to add UI components programmatically and the handsomeness of the components as a whole convinced the evaluation team,” said one of the evaluators from Dimoco.

Recently, Potix announced the release of K Spreadsheet 2.1.1, an embeddable Ajax spreadsheet that delivers rich functionalities of Excel within browsers using pure Java without the need for any plugins. ZK Spreadsheet 2.1.1 focuses on bug fixing and performance tuning; improving overall system deployment including creating and selecting spreadsheets and data editing.
