Terremark, a Verizon Company, has recently opened Network Access Point (News - Alert) (NAP) in Amsterdam, which joins the company’s network of more than 10 top-tier datacenters across Europe. The facility, which provides 25,000 square feet of data center space inside the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Area, expands the Terremark's presence in Europe, adding to key sites in Spain, the United Kingdom and Turkey.

The NAP of Amsterdam connects to AMS-IX, one of the world's largest Internet exchanges with more than 350 members. As a result, Terremark's customers can leverage the hundreds of global networks at lower transit costs. Designed with advanced cooling, power, redundancy and sustainability features, the facility can maintain the availability of business-critical applications while reducing energy consumption.

"The opening of the NAP of Amsterdam represents an important milestone in Verizon's (News - Alert) continued strategic investment in expanding Terremark's global data center footprint," said Kerry Bailey, president of Terremark, in a statement. "The expanded portfolio of facilities and services that we are bringing to market enables our customers throughout Europe to tap into a highly differentiated set of enterprise-class services that meet our high requirements for security, performance and reliability in the industry."

"Amsterdam is an established central business hub for more than 500 international companies, and we are uniquely positioned to tap this market," said Herman Oggel, president of Terremark's European business unit. "The NAP of Amsterdam will enhance our ability to provide the secure and highly sophisticated solutions customers have come to expect from us."

In related news, Verizon Communications Inc announced that chemical engineering company Mossi & Ghisolfi (M&G) has selected its cloud-based solution to deliver critical business applications. The cloud-based solution, delivered through Terremark, helps drive cost and management efficiencies, including power consumption, linking to M&G's green goals. M&G has selected the enterprise cloud solution, developed and delivered by Deloitte (News - Alert) and Verizon, as the foundation for its new business IT environment. Financial details of the selection were not available.
