Operator Billing Helps Developers Monetize their Content
By Mini Swamy

Operator billing rolled out in Europe today for the first time. Android users on Vodafone (News - Alert) no longer need to use their credit cards to pay their phone bills. This includes pre-pay users as they can also make use of this service.

Vodafone U.K and Vodafone Germany will thus make it much easier for users to buy their favorite games and apps without the hassles of having to enter all their credit card details. This move is being regarded very favorably among Android (News - Alert) users.

The Operator billing service will immediately be available to users who bought handsets through Vodafone online and retail channels. They will be entitled to ‘Exclusive first Use' of the operator billing service, and the others will get to enjoy the benefits a little later.

Vodafone expects the service to have a direct impact on the app market and developers are expected to benefit from the extended potential.

Now customers across Europe will be able to access new and exciting Vodafone content easily and can make purchases at bargain prices. This not only heightens the possibility of increased sales but also ensures that users have a richer and easier purchasing experience.

For many users unwilling or rather reluctant to use their credit cards to make payments for Android apps, the Vodafone operator billing service will come as a boon. In some countries this 'reluctant category'can be more than 90 percent of the market.

In other news, In the week of the first EU Digital Assembly in Brussels, Vodafone Foundation is launching the Smart Accessibility Awards. This is a new competition to promote the development of IT applications designed to improve the lives of people with disabilities and older people to help them become more actively involved in society.
