Bouygues Telecom announced it has deployed network specialist Ciena Corporation’s CN 4200 FlexSelect Advanced Services Platform across France to expand its broadband DSL aggregation and transport network as well as increase capacity.
The CN 4200 is part of Ciena’s Packet-Optical Transport portfolio that addresses any transport network requirement and offers a variety of service and interface options.
Bouygues Telecom sought a cost-effective, reliable infrastructure solution that was also flexible enough to support new subscribers and services on an ‘as needed’ basis. In response, Bouygues Telecom selected Ciena’s CN 4200 as the packet-optical transport infrastructure in its fixed and mobile networks.
Francois Locoh-Donou, VP and general manager of Ciena in the EMEA region, said: “The introduction of new services and growing subscriber numbers are putting increasing pressure on service providers to operate more efficiently and lower costs without compromising security and performance. By selecting CN 4200, Bouygues Telecom has secured improved efficiency, infrastructure scalability and improved reliability of its fixed and mobile networks for the delivery of data-rich end-user applications, ensuring its ability to continue innovating and adapting to its customers’ evolving requirements.”
Bouygues Telecom is one of the top three mobile operators in France. In addition to its 3G mobile network, which covers more than 80 percent of the French population with a high-speed mobile broadband service, it also offers fixed line and DSL services throughout the country. Bouygues Telecom has just launched a new plan offering unlimited calls to three fixed or mobile numbers on any network starting at EUR 9.90 per month. There will be no contract tie-in period. It will not include VoIP calls made from the Bbox STB/modem.
The CN 4200 allows Bouygues Telecom to cost-effectively support new voice, video and data services for both its business and consumer customers. In addition, CN 4200’s dynamic optical programmability -- driven by its FlexiPort technology -- supports the operator’s future service and capacity needs by providing the ability to easily scale and reconfigure the transport network on demand in direct response to the evolving needs of its customers.
More than 200 organizations around the world, including leading service providers, enterprises, government agencies and research and education networks, utilize Ciena’s CN 4200 platform for its flexibility, ease of deployment and significant capital and operational savings.
