Lockheed Martin (News - Alert), which has built the JCSAT-12 communications satellite for SKY Perfect JSAT, has announced the satellite is all set to be launched on Aug. 21 aboard an Ariane 5-ECA launch vehicle.

Lockheed Martin Space Systems designs, develops, tests, manufactures and operates a full spectrum of advanced-technology systems.

The satellite will be launched by Arianespace (News - Alert) on an Ariane 5 rocket from the Guiana Space Center in French Guiana and has 30 Ku-band transponders and 12 C-band transponders with the capacity to cover Japan, Oceania, Asia-Pacific and Hawaii.

The satellites has a minimum lifetime of 15 years and once launched will act as a backup for other SKY Perfect satellites.

Lockheed Martin built its high-power relay platform based on its A2100AX satellite bus.

The A2100 geosynchronous spacecraft series is designed to meet a wide variety of telecommunications needs and the A2100's modular design features a reduction in parts, simplified construction, increased on-orbit reliability and reduced weight and cost.

JCSAT-12 marks the 38th A2100 spacecraft designed and built by Lockheed Martin and the fifth delivered to SKY Perfect JSAT (News - Alert). Lockheed Martin delivered JCSAT-9 through JCSAT-11 and N-SAT-110 and is currently manufacturing JCSAT-110R, which is scheduled to launch in 2011 as well as JCSAT-13, which is scheduled to be delivered in 2011 with a launch date to be announced at a later time.
