Teleperformance Mulls Layoffs in Ohio

Teleperformance USA reportedly will cut more than 200 jobs at its Dublin, Ohio call center after one of its top clients consolidated operations.
The center provides customer support for a client that has decided to operate in fewer locations, Teleperformance (News - Alert) wrote in a letter to the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the Columbus Dispatch reported. The 218 people that work at the center may lose their jobs by the end of August if the company doesn’t find a new client to fill the space, the report said.
Teleperformance does not release the names of its clients, though the client in question was described as Columbus-based credit-card provider, the newspaper said. The news comes as the company reportedly laid off 250 people at an Akron, Ohio call center.
“We hope we can bring in new jobs and, hopefully, they're out pursuing other customers for that facility, too,” Michael Stevens, deputy development director for Columbus, told the Columbus Dispatch.
Teleperformance USA is a subsidiary of France’s Teleperformance, a global contact center outsourcing firm. It operates 281 centers and has 83,000 employees in 46 countries.
The company recently made headlines when Teleperformance bought one of computer giant Dell’s contact centers in the Philippines. Under the deal, Teleperformance manages Dell’s (News - Alert) consumer technical support operations in the Philippines, including the main contact center in Pasay City. The acquisition of Dell’s contact center in Pasay City by Teleperformance reaffirms the importance of offshore delivery, TMCnet reported.
In other news, Teleperformance also recently announced an equity incentive plan involving as many as 3 million shares. The company proposed the plan at its annual general meeting in May.
And earlier this year, Teleperformance announced the grouping of its activities in France. Companies including Cash Performance, Communications, Infomobile, TechCity Solutions France, Teleperformance France, Teleperformance Midi-Aquitaine, Teleperformance Nord, Teleperformance Rhone-Alpes were merged under a single management structure, TMCnet reported. In addition, four operational companies were created, including Teleperformance Nord-Champagne, Teleperformance Centre-Est, Teleperformance Centre-Ouest, Teleperformance Grand-Sud.
