Orange Moldova, part of the France Telecom (News - Alert) Group and a mobile operator with a market share of about 65 percent, serving more than 2 million customers in Moldova, is expanding to 3G and beyond with Tellabs (News - Alert).

Officials with Orange Moldova said that the company will address its mobile data challenge by expanding its current Tellabs 8600 Managed Edge System deployment in mobile backhaul.

Company officials said that the service provider will add the Tellabs 8609 Access Switch as a cell site gateway and small aggregation router for 2G and 3G voice and data traffic.

"The new Tellabs 8609 switch is a cost-efficient and high-density Ethernet solution, which complements nicely Orange (News - Alert) Moldova's current mobile backhaul platform," said Veaceslav Roman, chief technical officer of Orange Moldova, in a statement.

Roman said that the Tellabs 8000 intelligent network manager coupled with the Tellabs 8600 system provides a highly competitive, end-to-end solution for the company’s mobile backhaul needs.

"The Tellabs 8600 system helps Orange Moldova stay ahead of its bandwidth challenge and prepare the mobile network ready for 3G and beyond," said Tarcisio Ribeiro, vice president, Europe, Middle East & Africa at Tellabs.

Ribeiro said that in addition, the remarkable density of the Tellabs 8609 switch and the overall energy-efficiency of the Tellabs 8600 network elements help drive down Orange Moldova's operating costs.

Officials with Tellabs said that Orange Moldova has deployed the Tellabs 8609 switches under the same network management umbrella, the Tellabs 8000 Intelligent Network Manager (INM), to manage the entire mobile backhaul solution end-to-end.

Company officials said that the Tellabs 8000 INM improves operational efficiency with automated processes and tools in service creation and upgrades. Its graphical user interface (GUI) is very easy to use.

Moreover, with flexible testing tools Orange Moldova is able to pre-test the network and services. The customized reporting functionality enables the service provider to identify possible trouble spots and issues in the network before they cause problems.
