Huawei Demos World's First Media Cloud Capable of Editing Six Layers of HD Videos at NAB 2015

LAS VEGAS, April 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Huawei, in collaboration with media partners, demonstrated its Omnimedia HD Production Solution, the world's first media cloud solution capable of supporting concurrent editing of six layers of HD videos at the 2015 National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) Show.

Huawei also exhibited the industry's first scale-out storage solution that meets video production requirements for six layers of 4K ultra high definition HD editing at the NAB Booth #SL15108. The two solutions will help global customers in the media industry better manage mobile and UHD program creation and editing.

Huawei's Omnimedia HD Production Solution delivers a service-defined hybrid cloud IT infrastructure compatible with open cloud platforms such as OpenStack. The solution uses the industry's first VM+GPU rendering resource pool, cloud desktop HDP protocol optimization, mixed and intelligent image identification, encoding technologies, and 6-track editing of 120 Mbit/s video.

The Omnimedia HD Production Solution meets media customers' special requirements to address the 24-hour media demand and viewers' expectations to access media content on mobile devices. It features smooth video editing capabilities at 25 frames per second, 120 Mbps HD code streams for programs produced within TV stations, and dedicated GPU boards for program combination and rendering.

Together with its customer, Shenzhen Media Group, and its partner Chengdu Sobey Digital Technology Co., Ltd., a software developer for the broadcast industry, Huawei has constructed a true-to-life environment at its NAB booth to demonstrate the entire service flow involved in real-time collection, editing, and broadcasting of video programs. The environment showcases the ability to produce and broadcast omnimedia content anywhere and anytime.

Also at its booth, Huawei showcased its 4K UHD video production solution named "Demo." Built on Huawei's OceanStor 9000 NAS system, it features 1.6 GB/s bandwidth per node and shared architecture for 60 percent savings of processing time; 4 72-disk storage nodes and capacity of 60PB per system for high-density storage; and smart software for 30 percent in energy savings. The solution helps TV stations improve the efficiency of HD/4K UHD video editing, archiving and retrieving. The OceanStor 9000 made its debut last month at CeBIT 2015. With its unique eTurbo communications protocol, OceanStor 9000 enables media organizations to save operating costs by reducing machine room space by 200 percent and energy consumption by 32 percent. It also improves overall efficiency by enabling the management of the entire program production—including reporting, editing, broadcasting, managing and storing—in a single storage system that can hold up to 350,000 hours of 4K media assets. Combined with the Huawei S12700 series agile switches, the solution reduces frame losses by 90 percent, supporting smoother UHD video editing.

"Looking ahead, Huawei will continue to focus on its  'Openness, Cooperation, and Win-win' strategy, and expand collaboration with global integrators and independent software vendors to fully utilize its technical advantages in cloud computing, Big Data, and IP networking to help more customers in the media industry achieve excellence in the omnimedia era," said Zheng Yelai, President of Huawei's Enterprise IT product line.

Huawei has deployed media solutions for over 500 film and television institutions around the world, including Phoenix TV and TVB in Hong Kong; Illumination Mac Guff in France; TATA Sky in India; and China Central Television (CCTV), Beijing Television, and the Shenzhen Media Group in China.
