Ascom and Sievers Group Implement Innovative Hospital Communications Solution

Ascom, a leading supplier of Healthcare ICT solutions, has been commissioned by the SIEVERS GROUP to implement an advanced IP-DECT (News - Alert) communication solution at all three hospitals of the Catholic Hospital Association (KHO) in East Westfalia.

The established system integrator has previously been commissioned by KHO to replace the entire range of telecommunications equipment in the Franziskus Hospital in Bielefeld, the Mathilden Hospital in Herford and the Sankt Vinzenz Hospital in Rheda-Wiedenbrück, all of which are part of the KHO group.

"We have high focus on security and process efficiency. Sievers and Ascom (News - Alert) presented an innovative complete concept that suited our high requirements", says Ulrich Günzel, Commercial Manager of the Franziskus Hospital and Authorised Representative, KHO.

Ascom has, in close consultation with the client, designed an IP-DECT solution especially adapted to the needs of the three hospitals enabling existing alarms and information to be directly forwarded to the mobile devices of the employees. In the future it will also be possible to securely transmit medical alarms from the telemetric and patient-monitoring systems to user devices under the newly applicable standard DIN EN 606001-1-1.

The customized solution includes around 180 base stations that are distributed among the three hospitals and Ascom IP-DECT handsets with intuitive user interface and large color displays that simplifies the handling of complex functions. The devices are characterized by their high levels of reliability and innovative features, such as an advanced alarm functionality, alarm-prioritization and localization. The handsets are particularly robust and water resistant, and can be hygienically cleaned with disinfectants containing up to 3% hydrochloric acid.

"Our goal is to use integrated communication and faster transmission of information to create more efficient processes in the hospitals, and thereby supporting the hospital staff in their daily work", explains Jörg Gebauer, Managing Director of Ascom Deutschland GmbH.

"Our solutions support the hospitals in their work of striving for increased quality of care and improved patient safety, which in turn strengthens the competitive position of the hospitals thanks to an improved reputation".
