Wi-Fi take-off sparks firm's move to Exeter [Express & Echo (England)]

(Express & Echo (England) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ONE of the UK's fastest growing providers of wireless internet networks is targeting continued expansion after moving its headquarters to Exeter.

Lord Mayor Percy Prowse was on hand to officially open WiFi Spark's new offices at Matford Business Park.

The move to the city marks a new chapter for the company founded by managing director Matt O'Donovan in 2003.

Growing demand for internet access in hotels, bars, hospitals and schools has seen WiFi Spark outgrow its previous base in Newton Abbot.

The company has a broad variety of active locations across the UK and Ireland. In Exeter, venues such as Westpoint and the Royal Albert Memorial Museum use its bespoke wireless systems.

WiFi Spark facilitates millions of device connections through its platform each week. Further afield, the technology is used by major shopping centres, the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham and hundreds of NHS locations nationwide.

Mr O'Donovan said: "We are delighted to make the move to Exeter as it is a testament to our growth and achievements during the last 11 years. The company has grown stronger, despite a challenging economic climate, and this move to the city puts us in the best position to continue our expansion over the next decade too." He added: "WiFi Spark was actually born from a simple idea. As a keen sailor, my boat was moored in Torquay marina, but there was no real option for internet connectivity over 10 years ago. I believed that Wi-Fi for marinas really should be quite an achievable thing to do and grew the idea from there.

"Now our WiFi Spark systems connect over two million devices each week and, as Wi-Fi becomes even more essential to our lives, we hope we'll be celebrating even greater success in another decade." Councillor Prowse said: "It is always great to welcome new and growing businesses to the area, and we are delighted that WiFi Spark has decided to move its base to the city.

"We very much look forward to seeing the growth of the company and wish them every success in the coming years." (c) 2014 ProQuest Information and Learning Company; All Rights Reserved.
