Birdstep Has Released All-New Intelligent Network Selection And Always-Smartest-Connected (ASC) solutions

(Oslo Bors Newsfeed Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) OSLO, Norway - October 1, 2014 - Birdstep Technology (www.birdstep.com), the leading provider of Intelligent Network Selection for cellular and WiFi heterogeneous networks (HetNet's), announced today that it is introducing the next generation of Always- Smartest-Connected (ASC) solutions.

Mr Lonnie Schilling, CEO of Birdstep explains, "It's no longer only about the wholesale offload of data to Wi-Fi. It is increasingly becoming important to the operators' business models to deliver Experience Continuity, which can only be achieved using Always Smartest Connected (ASC) technology." Birdstep´s EasySmart with Intelligent Network Selection and Always Smartest Connected augmented by the company's SmartANDSF server, the world's first truly intelligent HetNet solution, is currently being trialed with mobile network operators. Birdstep's ASC provides a real-time view of the networks' Quality of Service (QoS) characteristics of both the cellular and Wi-Fi networks based on crowd sourced data from the EasySmart smartphone client deployments across the network. The ASC QoS data is then provided to other EasySmart smartphone clients allowing Policy-on- the-Device together with QoS to determine whether cellular or Wi-Fi provides the best bearer service to the subscriber. The solution uses a large set of parameters that determines service quality such as bandwidth quality measurements for speed, latency and more.

With Birdstep's EasySmart operators can allow subscribers to seamlessly move between different connections within a HetNet environment such as Wi-Fi and cellular, based on business logic provided to the EasySmart Smartphone client through Birdstep's SmartANDSF Policy Server. Birdstep's Always Smartest Connection works in conjunction with EasySmart ensuring the network with the best available quality is available to the subscriber.

"The mobile operators' needs are rapidly evolving beyond simple offload as a way of coping with increasing mobile data traffic more efficiently than just building out the cellular infrastructure. While traffic growth remains the single biggest driver of data offload, the emphasis has changed subtly from shunting data to Wi-Fi, to selecting the best available network through intelligent application of real time analytics and ensuring Experience Continuity," Schilling will explain. "In some situations the WiFi network will have more bandwidth and will be selected, while in other situations the cellular network may have better throughput and less latency, therefore fulfilling the policy rules defined in SmartANDSF and being selected.

At CTIA in September and at Broadband World Forum in October, Mr. Schilling highlights how, in this market, Always Smartest Connected will allow operators to deliver compelling services to their customers, further differentiating themselves from their competitors. The role of Birdstep's actionable EasyAnalytics and Intelligent Network Selection will be key in delivering Experience Continuity to the mobile operator's end users.
