Gates open at 7:30 a.m. with the Manitoba Clydesdale Classic each day from 8 a.m. to noon at the grandstand. Canadian Cowboy Association and MRCA Rodeo at 7:30 p.m. nightly followed by a free dance each night at the Corn and Barley Corral at 10 p.m. Also features Manitoba's largest-ever display of operating vintage military vehicles. The Manitoba Agricultural Museum is also proud to host the Canadian Forces, including 1st Regiment Royal Canadian Horse Artillery and 2nd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry, as part of this year's Military Heritage feature attraction. Friday, July 25 * 7 a.m. - The Neepawa Lily Festival kicks off with a Rotary breakfast until 10 a.m. Lily show opens at noon. Opening ceremonies at 1 p.m. in the Lily Lounge. Scottish dancers at 3 p.m. followed by the Thistle Celtic Fury show with the McConnell School of Celtic Dancers at 3:45 in the Lily Lounge. * 5:30 p.m. - The Roseland/Brandon South community is holding its first tailgate barbecue at the Roseland South Brandon Community Centre (south on Highway 10, turn west on Glencarnock Road - first gravel road south of eastern access lights - then go 4.5 miles west, community centre on north side of road). * 7 p.m. - The Brandon Folk, Music and Art Festival is held under the trees at the Keystone Centre with great music, art, children's area, food and camping. Welcome to the festival at 7 p.m. Headliners tonight are Ben Figler, Federal Lights and Martin Sexton. Weekend passes are $80, $70 for students and seniors; children 12 and under are free. Day passes are $40 for Friday; Saturday and Sunday are $45. Camping passes are $15 for individuals and $25 for families. * 10 a.m. - The Virden Draft Horse Show will take place at the Virden Ag Society grounds with halter classes at 10 a.m. and hitch classes at 2 p.m. Free admission.

* 11 a.m. - The Virden Pioneer Home Museum is holding a barbecue until 1 p.m. with toonie tours, activities and more which will provide guests with a taste of early Victorian life on the Prairies. For more information, call 204-748-1659.

* 1:30 p.m. - Come celebrate Manitoba Ukrainian Canadian Cultural Day at Sandy Lake until 3:30 p.m. with hands-on demonstrations of traditional craft and homesteading arts of the pioneers such as Ukrainian Easter egg painting, rope making, paper flower making, perogy making, as well as log hut tours. Traditional fried bread is also served at the outdoor kitchen. Tours are available at the Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Museum during regular hours from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This is a free event but donations are welcome.

* 3 p.m. - Authors of the book "Since We Told The Truth," a sequel to "Hutterites," will be at Coles Bookstore in the Brandon Shoppers Mall until 5 p.m.

Fellowship of Christian Cowboys Interfaith Service at the Heritage Building at 10:30 a.m.; Static fashion show at 3 p.m.; rodeo at 5 p.m. and free dance at 7:30 p.m.

* 10 a.m. - The Virden Draft Horse Show will take place at the Virden Ag Society grounds with halter classes at 10 a.m. and hitch classes at 2 p.m. Free admission.

Travel east for two miles, turn north and travel one mile (signs will be posted). Public gates open at 11 a.m. with heats starting at 1 p.m. Admission is a donation at the gate.

* 2 p.m. - Westman Jams invites country, old-time and bluegrass musicians, singers and music lovers of all ages and abilities to join us for friendship, music and fun at the Sprucewoods Community Club (near Shilo) until 5 p.m. the last Sunday of the month. Entertainment is free, everyone welcome.

At the Galleries & Museums * The Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba - Hours: Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit agsam.ca. In the Main Gallery: "Upshot," by Fiona Annis, Lorna Bauer and Laura Findlay and co-curated by Natalia Ledbedinskala and Anastasia Hare is on display until Aug. 15. * The Royal Canadian Artillery Museum at CFB Shilo - The RCA Museum will open an exhibit entitled "The Great War 1914-15" in commemoration of the centennial of the First World War at 5 p.m. on Aug. 4, exactly 100 years to the minute since Canada found itself at war with Germany. The guest of honour for the opening ceremony will be renowned Canadian film director and author, Paul Almond, whose father was a Canadian gunner in the Great War. Exhibit highlights will honour the centennials of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry formed in 1914 and of the writing of "In Flanders Fields" in 1915. The exhibit runs until June 2015. Future exhibits to commemorate the Somme in 2016 and the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 2017 are planned to build on the visitor experience in "The Great War 1914-15." The RCA Museum is open seven-days-a-week from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. until Labour Day.

* The Daly House Museum - Original home of Brandon's first mayor, Thomas Mayne Daly, which was built in 1882 and is the only period museum in western Manitoba. Ordinary citizens of Brandon who were heroes at home during the First World War are commemorated in the new exhibit, "Every Citizen a Soldier," on display until Sept. 1. The exhibit features many remembrances from the time, including medals, uniforms, letters written home by soldiers, trench art and more. Hours: Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. throughout the summer. For information, call 204-727-1722.

* 26th Field Regiment RCA/XII Manitoba Dragoons Museum - Come see a vast collection of historical military items at 1116 Victoria Ave. Open Tuesdays 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Call 204-717-4579 for other times. * The Commonwealth Air Training Plan Museum - Hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m, seven days a week. The museum is Canada's only air museum solely dedicated to the preservation of the history of those who trained and fought for the British Commonwealth during the Second World War. Check out our RCAF Memorial Wall display in the museum's hangar. Travel back to the 1940s as you wander through a Second World War vintage hangar serving as a display area for aircraft, vehicles and hundreds of artifacts from that era. The museum will highlight the progress on the RCAF Second World War Memorial to be unveiled on Sept. 10.

* The Brandon General Museum and Archives - On the ground floor of the old Manitoba Telephone building at 19 Ninth St. Hours: Tuesday to Saturday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. On display is a new exhibit showcasing Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) history including a vintage switchboard and a display of telephones of the past 50 years.

* The Arts West Travelling Gallery - The 2014-15 travelling gallery is at the Souris Library.

Upcoming Events * July 28 - It's Marathon Monday, and Patrick Law and Dylan Thornborough will be playing more than 200 holes of golf to support the Canadian Cancer Society at the Glenboro Golf and Country Club. The day-long event will begin at sunrise, and conclude with a supper and prize auction at 7 p.m. Tickets for Marathon Monday supper are available for $30 with all proceeds going directly to the Canadian Cancer Society. * Aug. 5 - Former Brandonite and Vincent Massey High School grad returns to Brandon for a voice recital. Operatic baritone Cameron McPhail will perform at the Lorne Watson Recital Hall at Brandon University at 7 p.m. Joined by his wife, Vancouver-born soprano Catherine Affleck, and accompanied by his childhood piano teacher Claudette Caron, the three will give a recital combining operatic repertoire, art song and music theatre. * Aug. 8-9 - The town of Carberry will celebrate its rich heritage with the second Carberry Heritage Festival featuring an old-time strawberry social, old-time dance with fiddler Mark Morisseau and his band, Manitoba Muzzleloaders with flint-lock long gun demonstrations, walking tours of the town and more.
