(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Project Number: PPSTI 01 2013A Project Cost (US$): 200,000 Project Type: Standard Project Year: 2013 Project Status: Implementation Sponsoring Forum: APEC Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation (PPSTI) Expected Start Date: 01/12/2012 Expected Completion Date: 31/05/2014 Project Summary: Topic: The promotion of an Internet of Vehicles (IoV), utilizing integration of communications and automotive technologies to maximize road-safety and transportation efficiency supporting the key APEC goal of free and open trade through the safe transportation of goods and people. Activities, Locations, Times: Forum: An APEC funded four-day forum on IoV will be held at the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI) at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and at Tongji University, Shanghai, China in April 2014. Cooperative Research: Non-APEC funded, ongoing IoV research, as the bases of this forum, will focus on vehicular wireless communication, multi-sensor multi-source data collection and processing, and business integration. Implementation: A key component of the project, an experimental implementation based on key developed IoV technologies will be built. In the end, it will later be adapted to and promoted in all member economies, especially those suffering from severe traffic problems. Relevance: Recalling the declaration made at the 2012 APEC Leaders Meeting that "We recognize the importance of information and communication technologies (ICT) as a crucial driver for further integration in the APEC region. We reaffirm the necessity of multi-stakeholder cooperation to continue efforts to expand and strengthen the Asia-Pacific Information Infrastructure and to build confidence and security in the use of ICT." And as stated at the 2012 APEC Ministerial Meeting that We welcome work on regulatory cooperation and convergence to facilitate the robust deployment of new automotive technologies, such as electric vehicles and vehicle to vehicle and vehicle to infrastructure communications. Given the importance of these new technologies to improving safety and reducing traffic congestion and emissions." As transportation develops in parallel with information technology, the importance of communication in traffic networks becomes increasingly vital. The growing road traffic congestion is aggravating an energy crisis. The application of ICT to the automobile industry will enhance supply chain connectivity through infrastructure development and logistics cooperation. At the same time, with the development of the automobile industry worldwide and ever increasing numbers of automobiles on the road, there have been frequent reports of large numbers of traffic accidents which result in upward of two-hundred-seventy thousand, twenty-seven thousand and thirty-five thousand deaths in 2012 in China, Russia and the USA, respectively. It is predicted that annually, more than 1.9 million people will die from traffic acciden Project completion date : 2014-05-31 12:00:00 Major organization : CHINESE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES, SHANGHAI ADVANCED RESEARCH INSTITUTE; TONGJI UNIVERSITY Address : No. 99 Kaike Road, Zhangjiang Hi-Tech Park, Pudong, Shanghai 201210, P.R.China Country :China Financier : Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), Financier address : APEC Secretariat 35 Heng Mui Keng Terrace, Singapore 119616 Tel: +65 6891 9600 Fax: +65 6891 9690 Email: [email protected] (c) 2014 Euclid Infotech Pvt.
