Octasic Selects Intel(R) Atom(TM) Processors for Small Cell Platform Product to Enable Innovative New Application OEMs

Octasic Inc., a leading innovator of baseband and media processing solutions, today announced it has selected the Intel® Atom™ processor for its newest Small Cell solutions. Octasic's new SDR4000 Small Cell platform is an OEM-ready product that brings new levels of performance, power efficiency, and frequency agility. The combination of Octasic's flexibility in baseband processing and the Intel Atom processor enables a new class of base station (BTS) for indoor and outdoor applications.
Octasic's unique capabilities of both wide-reach and high-capacity baseband, coupled with power efficient Intel Atom processors, delivers a turn-key development platform. This enables applications such as: network extension for capacity and coverage, Network in a Box (NIB), emergency response, military, transportable BTS, surveillance, Internet caching and many more.
The SDR4000 allows simultaneous 2G, 3G, and 4G operation in a compact (170x170 mm) form factor that can be powered over Ethernet with passive cooling. The platform provides improvements in performance and low power consumption. The SDR4000 will be based on the Intel® Atom™ processor N2600. A single processor can run the UMTS RNC stack as well as the LTE Layer 2 and 3, supporting 100 active users. Furthermore, Intel® QuickAssist Technology provides easy-to-use software for data-plane acceleration, while supporting migration across Intel-based devices. With scalability from the Intel Atom processor to the Intel® Xeon® processor, and a flexible software programming model and tool chains, the platform is ideally suited to provide the amount of processing power required, with headroom for value added services.
The SDR4000 supports the COM Express® standard ensuring compatibility with a broad range of Intel-based Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) modules. This is combined with Octasic's comprehensive 3GPP flexiPHY software offering extended cell size coverage, and three on-board software-defined multi-band radios.
