DJ Brazil Mobile Phone Sales Rise Slightly in October

SAO PAULO--Brazil's mobile-phone subscriptions rose slightly in October but at a slower pace than the previous month, according to figures from telecommunications regulator Anatel.
Total mobile phone users in Brazil rose to 259.29 million in October, up 0.16% from September, Anatel said. A total of 436,000 new subscribers were signed up in October, down from 959,860 million new subscriptions seen in September. The number of mobile phone users grew 0.37% in September from August.
Telefonica Brasil SA (VIV, VIVT4.BR), also known as Vivo, part of Spain's Telefonica SA (TEF, TEF.MC), remains the largest operator overall, with a market share of 29.42% in the period.
TIM Participacoes S/A (TSU, TIMP3.BR) was second with 26.79%. TIM is the local unit of Telecom Italia SpA (TI TIT.MI).
Claro, the local unit of Mexico's America Movil SAB de CV (AMX, AMOV, AMX.MX), ranked third with a 24.65% share, while Oi SA (OIBR, OIBR4.BR) remained in fourth place with 18.83%.
