HAITEC and ITRI Awarded With World Champion and Taiwan Winner in Galileo Pro 2012
HSINCHU, TAIWAN, Nov 15, 2012 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) --
"European Satellite Navigation Competition (ESNC) 2012" announced
today that the team formed by Taiwan's HAITEC and ITRI with their
entry of D.S.R.C (Driving with Safety, Responsiveness, and Courtesy)
has won the Grand Prize for the Prototyping Competition which was
organized by Taiwan and the global champion "Galileo Pro" of the ESNC
2012 as well.
The ESNC has been held by the European Union since 2004, and the
overall champion is selected from 24 regional contest and special
prize winning teams. In 2012, a total of 406 entries were submitted
to the competition over 40 countries across the globe. Among 25
entries from all over the world submitted to Taiwan for Prototyping
Competition, the HAITEC/ITRI team's D.S.R.C. is not only the winner
of Taiwan region, but also presented with the title of "Galileo Pro,"
the world champion.
The prototyping competition organized by Taiwan, with a theme of
"Connected Vehicle," required all entries to be in compliance with
the Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments/Dedicated Short Range
Communications (WAVE/DSRC) specifications and current global
positioning technology in order to provide and demonstrate useful and
innovative applications.
The D.S.R.C., the champion of all entries, has integrated automobile
and communication technology. The D.S.R.C. will allow drivers to send
warning or thank you signals to the surrounding vehicles just by
pressing a key while the drivers are used to rely on the car honk and
gestures in traditional driving communication. In addition, through
component control technology inside the car, the system can use the
WAVE/DSRC technology to timely emit warnings to other car drivers
when the driver wants to open the car door or use high beam without
causing any danger or uncomfortable feeling. The team has skillfully
applied the WAVE/DSRC technology to create an intuitive brand-new
driver's communication system by integrating vehicle's precise
positioning and automobile component control network technologies.
Compared with the traditional unidirectional communication (such as
honking), this system provides a safer, more interactive, and polite
driving experience.
