China : ZTE Helps CERNET Build World s Largest Coherent 100G OTN [TendersInfo (India)]

(TendersInfo (India) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ZTE Corporation, a publicly-listed global provider of telecommunications equipment, network solutions and mobile devices, announced today it has a won network expansion project for phase 3 of the China Education and Research Network (CERNET).

As part of the project, ZTE will provide its industry leading coherent 100G solution and ZXONE 8000 series OTN products to build the backbone bearer network. The 100G solution is capable of hybrid transmission of 100G and 10G services and supports a seamless upgrade from 10G to 100G. The phase 3 expansion will begin in 2012 and aims to expand the coverage and transmission capacity of the network and to improve its speed and security. The network will cover Beijing, Chongqing, Dalian, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Shanghai, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Wuhan and Xi an. Its total transmission distance will exceed 10,000 km.

The China Education and Research Network (CERNET) is a national academic computer network managed by the Ministry of Education and built and operated by universities and colleges such as Tsinghua University. At present, more than 2,000 universities, colleges, middle schools, primary schools and scientific research institutes are connected to CERNET. CERNET is now the world s largest national academic computer network, with more than 20,000,000 users.

"We are thrilled to cooperate with CERNET to build the largest coherent 100G network in the world, said ZTE Vice President Mr. Xu Ming. This project will promote the stable development of education in China.

ZTE has a long history of 100G and 400G/1T development. In February 2012, ZTE and Deutsche Telekom AG successfully completed a 2,450 km long-distance hybrid transmission of 100G/400G/1T signals in Germany, setting an industry record for the longest high-speed signal hybrid transmission. In June 2012, ZTE released seven 400G/1T DWDM prototypes for a variety of network applications. ZTE also has partnered with T-Mobile Austria, a subsidiary of Deutsche Telekom AG, to deploy the first commercial OTN network with WASON in Europe. This solution won the Backbone Optical Network Innovation Award from UK-based publication Global Telecom Business in June 2012.
