IKEA to sell TV's integrated into its furniture

(Associated Press Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) STOCKHOLM -- Sweden's IKEA says it will start selling TVs and sound systems that are integrated into its furniture later this year.

The flat-pack furniture group said the rollout should begin in Sweden, France, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark, Norway and Portugal from autumn 2012. They will become available in stores worldwide from the spring 2013.

IKEA said the packages come in three different designs. They all include a LED TV, a sound system with wireless bass speakers, an internet connection and CD, DVD and Blue-ray players that are integrated into IKEA furniture that hides cables.

All electronics require only a single remote control and the cheapest package will cost about 6,500 Swedish kronor ($955).

The technology has been developed by Chinese consumer electronics firm TCL.
