'Over 40% of French smartphone owners try m-commerce - survey'

Oct 19, 2009 (DMEUROPE via COMTEX) -- Some 41 percent of French smartphone owners have tried m-commerce and only 8 percent of them found the experience complicated, according to a Toluna survey for e-commerce software provider ATG. Of the panel of 1,000 smartphone owners surveyed in September, 36 percent said they would be more likely to make purchases through their mobile phone if vendors provided secure and easy-to-use payment systems, 28 percent said that promotions specifically geared to mobile internet purchasing would encourage adoption of m-commerce, and 21 percent felt that retailers should optimise their websites for better browsing on smaller screens. The main obstacles to m-commerce adoption were identified as unclear tariffs for mobile internet access (44%) and low bandwidth (22%). Consumers believe that m-commerce would be boosted by a broader range of Wi-Fi enabled phones (32%), affordable smartphones (26%) and mobile phones with larger displays (24%). The most popular m-commerce applications in France are purchasing train or plane tickets (30%), music and DVDs (27%), and cinema and theatre tickets (19%).
