'France Telecom considers sale of e-commerce operations'

(DMeurope Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
France Telecom is considering the sale of its lossmaking e-commerce
operations, including online bookstore Alapage and IT equipment retail
sites Clust and TopAchat. A company spokesman told AFP that in the
context of the regular review of France Telecom's portfolio of
activities, a study is underway on its e-commerce business. All
hypotheses are being studied, including a sale, but no decision has
been taken yet. According to Les Echos, which cites business news
website Eco89, if there is no buyer, the sites may be shut down, a move
that would affect 200 employees. France Telecom's e-commerce operations

made an around EUR 20 million loss on an about EUR 140 million turnover
in 2007, according to Les Echos. France Telecom bought Alapage for EUR
49 million in 1999.
